The Great I Am

This week we have simply been resting in who God is. In the busyness of life, the chaos of our days, raising kids, managing our home, supporting and loving our husbands, it can be hard to remember who our God is. Just how mighty He is. How amazing He is. And how loving He is!

There is proof of His love all around us. The problem is we often cannot see it because of lies and deception we have believed, or because of sheer busyness. Our culture frowns upon a lack of busyness. If you are not busy then you are not important. If you are not overwhelmed, well then you are just lazy. I think we all know by now that this lie has come on us purposefully from the enemy. Because he knows that if we have time to think, if we have time to rest, if we have time to ponder on who God is, then we will come to know the truth. We will come to know the truth that our families are indeed the most important thing in life, not money nor status. We will come to know God’s greatness through His creation. I mean, just stop and think about pregnancy and childbirth for a moment. It is astoundingly beautiful! And don’t focus on the pain, we obviously know that was not God’s desire. But come on, the details involved in God creating a human within another human are mind blowing. And then what about creation to begin with? Scientists call the moment that God said ‘Let there be light” the big bang theory. That is the best they can come up with! God creating the universe was amazing, and beyond our comprehension!

We cannot fully understand Him either. His ways are most certainly not ours. But He is absolute goodness. He IS love! Yes, we live in a fallen world infiltrated with sin. But lets get back to the basics. Back to the basics of why God created us, and why He sent Jesus.

Ladies, it blows my mind that God created us for relationship. Living in this fallen world, it is such a fight to get past the lies and truly understand the implications of this. But we gotta try. It is huge to me to understand the why behind God creating humans. What was His purpose? I mean, He obviously knew we were going to fall into sin and He still created us, why go through the trouble? Talk to God about this. Ask Him about why He created us. About why He created you!

And then Jesus. Our beautiful savior. I think the time period in history we live in sometimes distorts our understanding of things. My husband has been going deep into Genesis lately and we have had a lot of discussions about how reading the Old Testament helps us understand at a greater level why Jesus had to come. We have been living in the age of grace for about 2,000 years now and I think sometimes that time frame can put a damper on the message. It can lose it’s salt, can lose its significance. But humanity has no hope except for the hope found in Jesus. Without Him we are nothing. We are broken people, more broken than we tend to realize. And there is nothing that can cleanse us but the blood of Jesus. Nothing that can redeem us, but the blood of Jesus! Nothing that can bring us into righteousness, but the blood of Jesus!

Without Jesus, we have no reconciliation to our heavenly Father. And He was only going to live with that for so long. He could not have intimacy with us while we were stained with our sin. He literally sent His son to die to reconcile us all to His intended purpose…relationship! You cannot get more beautiful than that.

As we close out our week, I want to encourage you to talk to God about what is on your heart. Maybe it is your husband, something going on in your marriage. Maybe it is your community. Maybe it is one of your kids and the decisions they are making. Ask Him to show you His greatness in the situation. Ask Him to reveal His love through the situation. Ask Him to show you His heart for the situation. Because His perspective changes things. It is so much greater. So much higher than our ways. And no matter how hard the situation is, I guarantee He is in it and He has something to show you about it.
