Selflessness in motherhood
We are all born into selfishness. It plays into our fundamental desires, to have all our needs met and be as fulfilled as possible. But the problem is we have fallen prey to understand our needs from a worldly view, instead of from the perspective of our heavenly Father.
When you sit down and think about our needs and desires they usually reflect things such as food & water, a home, clothes, entertainment, transportation etc. But when you read scripture you see our needs, as described by our heavenly Father, are different. They are salvation through Jesus, a relationship with God, a renewed mind, discernment, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and deep rooted faith! And if we have these things then all our other needs become met as well.
As hard as it is ladies, I want to encourage you to lay down your view of your needs at the cross. Give your needs to Jesus, and ask Him to fill you with the needs that He knows you need. Ask Him to renew your mind to understand His kingdom better, to understand motherhood better, to understand His desires for you better. I do not believe we can walk in selflessness alone. Our pull to sin and selfishness in this age is so strong, that we truly do need the power of God and intimacy with the Holy Spirit to continuously lay down our needs at the cross. To put others before us. To choose our families day in and day out. To console the overtired toddler, to find the energy to nurse your newborn throughout the night, to pray through the pain of watching your kids turn away from God, to stand firm in your convictions with your teenager, to slow down & just be with your kids, to simply love them unconditionally through the exhaustion, pain, frustration and trials the years bring.
Ladies, let’s start going to the word of God for instruction. Let’s let the truth of God’s word flood our hearts, and let’s live out the truths everyday. Let’s actually be willing to change our habits, our days and our lives to be obedient to God. Let’s be willing to lay down our needs for our families needs. Let’s be willing to walk towards selflessness in motherhood hand in hand with Jesus!
