Just believe
Faith in Jesus seems to go against the human mind. First, you have to recognize that you are inherently not righteous, and in need of a savior. Then you must believe in the goodness of God to believe that He would love us so much He would send His son to die for us! The enemy has worked tirelessly for generations to contradict these truths and make faith harder for people.
But thank God that it is the power of God that brings salvation and nothing can stop what God has planned! But it does take effort and participation on our part to truly believe the things God has promised us. Whether that be promises from scripture, or promises through intimacy and hearing the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, we must actively walk away from the world, and in the way of the Spirit to be able to trust and believe God.
So, what does this look like in a believer's life? Well, first off we must be rooted in God’s goodness and love. We must understand that God’s love is so much greater than ours. God’s love is perfect and more than we can express. Secondly, we must understand that there is nothing but goodness in God! This can be so hard for us to understand, because we are living in a fallen world. So we do not know how absolute goodness works or what it looks like. It takes deep faith to trust in this. To believe this truth!
Once we are rooted in God’s goodness and love, we can then deepen our faith and grow in our trust! Without that ultimate trust in His goodness, we are not willing to take risks or steps of faith that He wants us to. If we are struggling with His goodness and love, one of the best ways to deepen our faith and trust is to spend more time in scripture. God’s word is living and active. It has a beautiful way of speaking to us, teaching us, and guiding us in just the right way, right when we need it. It fills us with the truth and plants it deep within our hearts. It gives us the strength and courage to go deeper in our trust, to take those leaps of faith and hold on to our promises when they look impossible.
So let’s challenge ourselves and open our hearts to going deeper! Let’s be willing to be bold, to trust God fully, to sit in scripture and let it soak in our hearts, fill our minds with God’s kingdom instead of things of this world and walk in the way of the Spirit, not the flesh!
