A fresh perspective on motherhood

The narrative in western culture on motherhood is pretty sad and depressing. Have you ever sat back and thought about that? The role of being a mother is rarely spoken of as a gift, blessing and privilege. But usually the topic revolves around tiredness, losing yourself and the need for wine. It is almost always sarcastic too, which just has a tendency to be a little too snarky for me.

Have you ever wondered why the narrative is so negative? I think most people see it as simply an outlet to their harsh daily life. They need time to just relax and be and laughing at funny memes about how annoying kids are does the trick. What’s the harm?

Well, call me crazy, but I think there is harm in this. Not always, sometimes it is harmless and relieves stress. But if it starts to change the way we think about things, if it starts to have an impact on our view as a mother, then we start running into a problem. I never saw it before, but once God opened my spiritual eyes I could see it clear as day. Satan pushes this narrative in culture because he knows the importance of mothers. He knows the importance of the impact of mothers. He knows the depth of the role of motherhood. And he wants to stop our kids from coming to know Christ. He wants to destroy families. He wants to distract us away from our roles and keep us too busy to realize what he is even up to. And unfortunately he has done a good job for decades now. But we won't focus on that today.

Because God! God is raising up His women and mothers to take back ground. He is opening our eyes to things we could not see before. He is empowering us to take back motherhood. He is equipping us with the tools we need to have thriving families. So, if God is for us, who can be against us?

Ladies, let’s take back motherhood. Let’s change the narrative. Let’s put the focus on the beauty and blessing of being a mother. Let’s encourage those around us to be the moms that God has designed them to be. Let’s show those around us that there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There is purpose to the mundane of our days. There is purpose in the repeated discipline. There is purpose in the dishes, the vacuuming, the laundry, the tears, the late nights and the early mornings. Let’s bring joy and excitement to the journey of motherhood! So, let’s start today! Let’s do what we can to improve the narrative in our lives, and the lives of those around us!
